July, 2018: The Peters group embarked on an expedition at Sequoia National Park. The group entered from Mineral King Glacial Valley and began the trek towards Sawtooth pass. The group arrived at the granite base of Sawtooth mountain on their second day and made camp at Monarch Lake, a two tiered tarn. After setting up base camp, the group ventured to the upper tarn and Mineral Peak, the rust colored mountain pictured. Upon nightfall, the group rested for their summit of Sawtooth pass that awaited the next morning. Half of the group woke up with altitude sickness and went home. An intrepid few continued on to sawtooth pass, including 7 year old Aven Peters.
